The IONIQ hybrid features a 1.6L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine that is paired with a 32kW electric motor to deliver efficient cruising. A class-exclusive 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission further enhances efficiency and provides instant engine feedback for unparalleled responsiveness.

Class-exclusive battery technology

All IONIQ models store their electrical energy in a highly advanced lithium-ion polymer battery. Lithium-ion polymer, the next generation of lithium-ion technology, is ideally suited to automotive applications thanks to its robust and reliable chemistry. Lithium-ion polymer batteries are smaller, lighter, longer-lasting and more energy-dense than the batteries found in competing hybrid vehicles.

The SUPERSTRUCTURE™

At the core of the IONIQ is the SUPERSTRUCTURE™. An ultra-rigid vehicle frame constructed using our very own Advanced High Strength Steel to deliver exceptional stiffness and rigidity. In the event of a collision, the SUPERSTRUCTURE™ helps protect occupants inside the vehicle by absorbing harmful energy and redirecting it away from the passenger compartment.

7 standard airbags

All models are equipped with seven airbags: two advanced front airbags, two seat-mounted side-impact airbags, two side-curtain roof-mounted airbags with rollover sensors, and a driver's knee airbag for added protection.

Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection

This available safety feature uses a forward camera and radar sensors to detect rapidly closing distances between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead, or pedestrians in your path. If a potential forward collision is detected, audible and visual warning notifications alert the driver. If the driver does not react to avoid the impact, the system can provide full braking assistance at speeds under 80 kilometres per hour (vehicle detection) or 64 kilometres per hour (pedestrian detection) to help avoid a potential collision.
