The Power of Hyundai's
Hybrid Vehicle Line-up

The Benefits of Hybrids

With hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants available on a wide range of Hyundai vehicles including the ELANTRA Hybrid, PALISADE Hybrid, SONATA Hybrid, TUCSON Plug-in Hybrid, and SANTA FE Hybrid, Hyundai's lineup offers something for everyone.

Hybrid

By using a full-parallel hybrid drive system, our Hybrid models can run on a gasoline internal combustion engine, an electric motor or both. With both these motors running, a selection of our Hybrid vehicles are capable of reaching 1,000 kms. They utilize these two energy sources seamlessly and will automatically switch between gas power, electric power, or both, to optimize power and fuel efficiency based on the speed and type of driving you’re doing.

Plug-in Hybrid

Electric when you want it. Gas when you need it. Enjoy the best of both worlds with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. These powertrains feature a larger battery compared to a hybrid, which gives you the option to drive on electric power only for shorter trips. If you need to go farther, the plug-in hybrid powertrain will simply start using the gasoline engine like a traditional hybrid, capable of reaching over 700 kms on select models.

PALISADE Hybrid

Combining power and efficiency, the PALISADE Hybrid comes in a 2.5 Turbo Hybrid 4-cylinder engine, powerfully driving 329 horsepower and 6-speed automatic transmission.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)?

A hybrid electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle both use an electric motor and a gasoline engine to generate movement. They adapt automatically using both power sources depending on driving conditions. Both vehicles also use regenerative braking, which recovers energy during deceleration and stores it in the battery for later use.

The key difference is that a plug-in hybrid has a larger battery and electric motor, allowing it to drive longer distances on electricity alone. Once the electric range is depleted, the vehicle operates like a regular hybrid until it is recharged. A PHEV plugs into an external power source, while a standard hybrid does not.

How do hybrid vehicles work?

A hybrid vehicle (HEV) is a combustion engine vehicle that has an auxiliary electric motor. The electric motor captures energy from the combustion process and stores it in a battery. You don’t plug in a hybrid vehicle; it fuels up with gas like a conventional vehicle but provides better fuel efficiency.

How do plug-in hybrids work?

A plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) is primarily powered by a gasoline engine but also has a secondary electric motor connected to a battery. The battery can be charged by plugging into a wall outlet or EV charging station, providing additional electric-only driving range.

What is the maintenance cost for Hyundai electric and hybrid vehicles in Canada?

Maintenance costs vary depending on the model and service needed. However, on average, Hyundai electric and hybrid vehicles tend to have lower maintenance costs than strictly gasoline vehicles.

Which powertrain is best for long commutes?

A hybrid vehicle provides strong efficiency in most driving conditions compared with standard gas vehicles.

Plug-in hybrids offer the added ability to travel up to 53 km on electric power (TUCSON Luxury Plug-in Hybrid).
